Martinholme clearly marked here as Chrishall Post Office.  Run by the Chambers family for many years, this was apparently not only the Post Office but one of the several village shops in the village at that time.  Not only was it well stocked with anything you needed but they would also order in items on request.  The ‘Amazon’ of their day!

The pond railings provide a rough guide to the edge of the water but you can see the easy access either end which allowed the traction engines to be able to pick the water they needed to run the engines.

You can also clearly see the start of the footpath (by Martinholme gate) that ran along the back of the pond by the hedge.
