Harry was born at Cheveley in Newmarket but moved with his parents to Brick Row where they are listed on the 1911 census: parents Fred and Elizabeth, children George, Walter, Harry, Sidney and sister Mabel. Harry’s father was a gamekeeper and they moved into the village sometime between 1901 and 1911.

Harry enlisted at Saffron Walden and served with the London Regiment Royal Fusiliers. He died on 22nd March 1917 aged just 19 following an outbreak of cerebro-spinal meningitis at the barracks. He is buried in Dover. (These outbreaks appear fairly regularly and mention is made of them in Hansard)
