Primrose Cottage

This view of Primrose Cottage could be as recent as the late 1970s and is probably no older than the 1960s. There is a modern rotary type clothes lines in front of the window far left. The lean-to conservatory and the corrugated steel entrance porch has been demolished and the tree far right no longer exists.

At the time this photograph was taken the cottage was called Manana and was lived in by Mr and Mrs Ray Cranwell.  Ray worked for Drage and Kent and you can hear him talking about his time as a ‘cook boy’ with Drages here.

Mrs Bess Cranwell was a very good gardener, as was Mr Cranwell, and they regularly took produce to local shows. They were keen members of Fowlmere Gardening Club.

This cottage was also originally two cottages. You can just see the second door next to the window on the left of the cottage. The cottage was built end on to the road so it was south facing to catch the all important morning sun.

One of the pastimes here was keeping rabbits and you can read about the rabbits and the local shows by clicking this link.
