1837 – 1901
Early on in the Victorian period there was a regular exodus of people from the village leaving for far flung parts of the world, many travelling to Australia to make their lives there. Those who stayed in the village were setting up businesses – local shops flourished and towards the end of this period transport in the form of charabancs and buses were to take villagers further afield.
