Parish Walk – 18 October 2025

We are joining the Parish Walk on 18th October this year to – endeavour! – to walk round all the parishes. Below are some images that I hope to talk about on the day.

The first one below is part of the medieval graffiti from Chrishall Church. You can read more about that by clicking here.

Wenden Lofts Mill

The lovely picture above is Wenden Lofts windmill. Sadly we don’t have any pictures of Chrishall windmill but we do know who the millers were. Read more about Chrishall windmill here and find out more about this photograph by clicking here.

This handsome chap is H Rider Hagard, a prolific author who wrote adventure books but also visited this area in the early 1900s. He didn’t come to Chrishall village but he did visit Mr Crossman’s estate at Cokenach, all around Barley and Little Chishill. On the walk we shall be looking at his description of Little Chishill church, which was in a poor state of repair at the time.

At Heydon we might talk about the Rev. John Horseman and also the Rev. Leachman, both of whom served this church at one time and left their stories behind them.
