On November 23rd we ran the third Irene Cranwell Memorial Lecture. This year it took the form of an afternoon exhibition plus evening talk. We were very pleased to work with SOCA, the Society of Chrishall Artists at this event. Chrishall Archive Group had a history exhibition in the main Chapel Hall and SOCA had an art exhibition in the South Hall.
In the evening the Archive Group welcomed Christopher South and Tom Doig to give their reminiscences of working with Irene Cranwell when she broadcast with them on Radio Cambridgeshire.
It was a lovely day of history and art and we were very pleased to welcome a range of visitors across the day. If you couldn’t make it here are a few pictures to give you a flavour of the day.
- The Archive ‘shop’ for the day. Local old postcards were popular and we had some lovely local Christmas cards available.
- Next to the ‘shop’ was our large poster of The Green which features pictures from early 1900 to 1960.
- Laying out dates on the timelines.
- Nearly ready to go – you can see the timelines here with the first boards which were about Chrishall’s very earliest history in Iron Age and Roman times.
- All go to get everything into place in time. We only had an hour an half to get set up!
- A quick discussion on what’s going where…
- Tom Doig and Christopher South entertaining us with stories.
- An introduction by me – Rosemarie – on Irene Cranwell’s early years.
- Nearly there – just waiting for the audience to arrive. Speakers arriving in the background!
- Caroline tries out the piano organ used to provide music for the chapel services before the chapel was built – so before 1862. Still works well!
- Many tales swapped during the day…
- Looking towards the wartime, sport and trade boards.
- Visitors came from Norfolk and Worcestershire as well as ‘locals’.
- Scanning some of the lovely photographs that were brought along on the day.
- We had visitors from the time we opened and there were still people walking round as we started to prepare for the evening talk.
- The ‘Tech Team’ corner provided fantastic sound and lighting support particularly in the evening for the talk.
- More timeline entries for the Red Cow, Church and Windmill areas.
- Banner has arrived – we are nearly ready to go!
