The Descendants of James Cranwell (born c. 1792) The following details have been supplied by Keith Hayden of Australia. Keith’s family are descended from the Brands and whose family married into the Cranwells. He adds: “Thomas Cranwell who was born in 1824 at Chrishall (see below) married Emma Bolden born 1827 of Great Chishill. My 4xgreat grandmother Jemima Bolden, (who married Nathaniel Hayden) at Arkesden was the great aunt to Emma!!     Correction….
    Thomas Cranwell married Emma Bolding (not Bolden) as stated in first paragraph.
    Shirley Husted (Cranwell) Australia….. Thomas was my great great Grandfather. The Bolding family have also decendants in Australia. I know Bolding is the correct name not Bolden…

    Thank you very much for that Shirley. It’s so easy for these names to become confused. I don’t know Keith, I’m afraid, as this particular page was already on the website when I took it over a few years ago. So I don’t know if he is still researching the Cranwells but hopefully your comment will help others who are tracing the family.

    In some documents (notably his marriage to Emily Hammond), Jonathan Cranwell was named as John. One of his children (Ada, spelled Adah in some documents) married my great great-uncle William Swatton on 9 September 1894. Not sure if you’re taking your genealogy out this far, but just thought I’d throw in a scrap of info! If you have any info on Ada(h)’s whereabouts up to her marriage, I’d be eternally grateful. She eventually became a dressmaker in Islington, London.

      Hello Lynn – thank you for this. As I said in a previous message, I don’t know Keith and I must admit looking at this page now it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me! It is difficult, I know, to export information from software and then put it out on a page. The layout can become a little confusing.

      So Jonathan who married Emily Hammond – were his parents John Cranwell and Elizabeth Burgess?
