Workmen-Great-Chishill

Workmen pictured at Reservoir Hall Lane, Great Chishill c 1935. Tim Harvey is in the front row with the pipe and back row left to right are Ron Reed & Chummy Harvey.

Karen Rogers of South Wales writes (July 2010): “I’m descended from Thomas Rogers and Phoebe Reed. My Great Grandfather, Timothy Rogers, moved to Gt Chishill when he married Ada Julia Loveday. You have a photograph in “at work” of workers in Gt Chishill and refer to the probability of two men being Ron Reed and Chummy Harvey. Thought you might like to know that my father confirms that they definitely are those men. He says Chummy lost his right eye in WW1 and usually wore a patch. He was great friends with my father’s uncle Bertie Rogers and they joined up together and were stretcher bearers together, one either end. Bertie was killed in action and is one of the Rogers on Chishill’s war memorial.”
